New National Diagnostic Imaging Program Established
The Australian Digital Health Agency is pleased to announce the establishment of a new national Diagnostic Imaging Program that aims to have diagnostic imaging reports available in the My Health Record system and accessible by consumers and healthcare providers.
The first Steering Group meeting took place in Brisbane on Thursday 2 March 2017 with 17 members in attendance representing a range of healthcare peak bodies and consumer groups.
Steering group member Mr Matthew Ames is a consumer representative.
"I have experienced first-hand the difficulties with managing my health information. I have a number of specialists in both Queensland where I live and also interstate, and I can see there are significant benefits for both consumers and healthcare providers to having easy access to health records. We need to ensure the health sector is engaged and the information is used to help provide better health and care for all Australians. I am pleased to assist in facilitating this process."
Dr Nick Ferris from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) welcomed the launch of the national program.
"The College is pleased to be working with the Agency, referrers, and consumers to facilitate the ready flow of diagnostic imaging information through the health system. While the Program's initial focus will be on the upload of reports to the My Health Record system, the College will also seek to develop the interoperable digital infrastructure needed to enable seamless access to images, as needed, across the system," said Dr Ferris.
The Agency's Program Steering Groups are bringing together members of the Australian community – clinicians, consumers, industry representatives and others – to help us design the scope of our programmes and support the program team with advice on delivery.
All groups – Medicines Safety, Pathology, and Diagnostic Imaging – are now fully established and have started meeting regularly under the leadership of the Agency's Executive General Manager Clinical and Consumer Engagement and Clinical Governance, and Chief Clinical Information Officer Dr Monica Trujillo.
You can follow their progress with the meeting communiques posted on the Agency website.
