Clinical Information Systems Enhancements for Diagnostic Requests - Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging Offer

The Australian Digital Health Agency was established by the Australian Government in July 2016 to drive the digital health agenda for the Australian community. We are working with the Australian community, clinicians, researchers and industry to connect people and their clinicians and, ultimately, to improve health and care in our community.

We recognise the importance of consumers and healthcare providers having access to pathology and diagnostic imaging information to support the transfer of care between healthcare settings.

The Agency work plan includes a specific deliverable to connect data feeds from pathology and diagnostic imaging providers to the My Health Record system to make diagnostic information more readily available to consumers and healthcare providers. Consumers have the right to withdraw their consent for their diagnostic services reports to be uploaded to their My Health Record, and the Agency wishes to make it straightforward for consumers to exercise this right.

Therefore, the Agency is seeking to collaborate with providers of those clinical information systems that are used by clinicians to record requests for diagnostic services reports and print the corresponding paper order forms. We are issuing an industry offer that will support the enhancement of these clinical information systems, to record a consumer’s consent status and allow the printing of a consent statement on the paper order form.

This offer closed at 5pm AEDT on Wednesday 13 December 2017.
