Setting the agenda for communicating My Health Record

Plans are well underway to offer a My Health Record to every Australian later this year. So the My Health Record Expansion Program Steering Group met in early December to help us guide the communication of the program to the community.

In keeping with our remit of consulting, collaborating and co-producing as widely as possible, we have ensured that this steering group includes a “Who’s who” of digital health in Australia. Representatives of major clinical bodies attended, representing GPs and physicians, nurses, allied health, aged care, pharmacists, pathologists, and more. Consumer groups, PHNs and Aboriginal community representatives also attended, along with privacy experts and industry representatives.

A sound, evidence-based communications strategy is in the process of being refined that encompasses engagement with stakeholder bodies as well as direct consumer-facing campaigns. The assembled group was able to provide immediate feedback on various proposals, based on their professional judgement and the views of their constituents. These face-to-face interactions were tremendously productive, and helped chart the course for My Health Record activities to come later this year.
