Set a Record Access Code
From the 1800MEDICARE app, you can control which healthcare provider organisations can view your My Health Record by setting a 4–8 character Record Access Code (RAC).
New organisations will need this code to access your record. The code applies to the organisation, not individual providers, and only needs to be entered once. Providers can still upload documents to your record without the code.
You can change or remove the code any time.
-
Log in to the 1800MEDICARE app
Open the 1800MEDICARE app, select Log in.
-
Select a record
Choose the record you want to access. This could be your record or someone you care for.
-
Select the profile icon
In the top right corner of your screen, select the profile icon.
-
Select 'Privacy and access'
Select Privacy and access.
-
Select 'Healthcare organisations'
Select Healthcare organisations.
-
Manage access
If you have some healthcare organisations listed, scroll to the bottom and select Manage access for other healthcare organisations.
If no organisations are shown, select Access for all other organisations.
If organisations are listed, review your list and remove any you no longer want to access your My Health Record before setting a RAC. A RAC only restricts access for new organisations – those already on your list will still have access.
-
Select 'Restrict access to this record'
Select Restrict access to this record.
-
Create a code
You can choose to generate a code or create your own code.
- If you choose to generate a code, a unique code will be generated for you.
- If you choose to create a code, the code must be 4–8 letters or numbers.
Once the RAC is created, you will need to share it with any new healthcare provider organisations if you want them to view your record.
