Secure online access to radiology and pathology reports now available in Bendigo

Published 14 December 2020

Patients in Bendigo now have the option of choosing radiology and pathology service providers that can securely upload their reports to My Health Record.

This follows the connection by Bendigo Radiology to the My Health Record System.

Bendigo Radiology has 16 practices in 14 communities in regional Victoria and has been operating for more than 35 years.

Bendigo Radiology radiologist Dr Sarah Skinner said “Reports of scans and tests conducted at all of our practices in Victoria are uploaded directly to a patient’s My Health Record.”

“For our patients and their GPs and specialists, especially those located in larger centres and in Melbourne this gives clinicians instant and secure access to the reports, and saves patients the cost and inconvenience of unnecessary re-testing if the hard copy of the report can’t be found.”

Amanda Cattermole, CEO of the Australian Digital Health Agency said “The connection by Bendigo Radiology means that all radiology and pathology services in the Bendigo region can now upload diagnostic reports to My Health Record for their patients.”

“This is another important step in connecting Australia’s health system.”

“Bendigo is now one of the most digitally connected health communities in Australia.”

“There are now around 10 million diagnostic imaging reports uploaded to the My Health Record system.”

“It can be easy to lose track of your reports, particularly if you don’t have a regular GP or when you are seeing a range of healthcare professionals to manage multiple conditions.”

“With My Health Record you keep your important reports safe in one place, which you and your healthcare providers can access at any time to make more informed decisions about your treatment or care.”

To enable providers to get maximum value from My Heath Record and increase the number of test reports uploaded for viewing by GPs and their patients, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and the Australian Digital Health Agency have launched My Health Record Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules for clinical radiologists and imaging practices.

The training resource available at https://training.digitalhealth.gov.au/ is for use by all staff working in diagnostic imaging practices
