National Clinical Governance Committee for Digital Health

The National Clinical Governance Committee for Digital Health (NCGC-DH) is an ongoing committee established to provide enduring clinical governance and stewardship. The NCGC-DH replaces and will build on the Clinical Reference Group (CRG) that was instrumental in the successful delivery of strategic clinical and consumer advice for the Better and Faster Access program, including advice that informed the development of the Modernising My Health Record (Sharing by Default) Act 2024.

The NCGC-DH aims to provide national clinical governance for digital health, system safety and quality, lived experience perspectives and expert clinical advice.

Role of the National Clinical Governance Committee for Digital Health

In its role as an advisory body the NCGC-DH will:

  • Ensure the upload of health information including pathology and diagnostic imaging results is consumer-centred and focused on delivering high quality information to consumers in line with their preferences, goals and consent and is clinically safe, accessible and inclusive
  • Advise on additional types of health information that could be safely shared by default to My Health Record in the future
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations on measures to ensure the safe and responsible use of emerging digital health models including virtual care and telehealth, and artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare settings.

Expert Advisory Groups

Reporting to the NCGC-DH are three expert advisory groups that will explore key topics in greater depth:

  • Better and Faster Access Expert Advisory Group advising on safe health information sharing to My Health Record
  • Virtual Care and Telehealth Expert Advisory Group advising on patient safety issues concerning emerging care models
  • Artificial Intelligence Enabled Care Expert Advisory Group advising on approaches for clinically safe implementation.

NCGC-DH membership list

The NCGC-DH membership comprises representatives from Commonwealth and state and territory governments, peak bodies, professional associations, consumer groups (including consumers with lived experience) and other stakeholders.
