Our hiring process

STEP 1

Application

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an email confirming it’s been received. Your application will be reviewed after the job closing date, so please note you will not hear from us until after this date.

STEP 2

Application review and shortlisting

Once the job closes, our Selection Panels carefully assess all applications against the requirements of the job and how well your experience, skills and capabilities align with the role. Your application will also be compared with other applications, which then supports the creation of a short list.

STEP 3

Hearing from us

We’ll notify you of the outcome of your application. If you’re shortlisted to proceed to the next stage of the process, you’ll be invited to attend an interview with the Selection Panel. If you are deemed not suitable by the Selection Panel you will not hear from us until the conclusion of the complete hiring process.

STEP 4About STEP 4

The interview

We want you to feel confident and supported throughout your interview experience. Most interviews are held via Microsoft Teams, and we offer reasonable adjustments to help you perform at your best. These are available to anyone, not just those living with disability. To help you prepare, learn more about interviewing in the APS by following this link.

STEP 5

Assessing your skills

For some roles, we may ask you to complete an online activity so we can learn more about your technical skills, natural strengths, leadership qualities or decision-making process.

STEP 6About STEP 6

The offer

After interviews are complete and reference checks have been received, we’ll reach out to the successful candidate with an offer and hopefully start planning your first day with us. If you’re not selected this time but deemed suitable, you may be placed in a merit pool for future opportunities at the same level. Learn more about the APS merit principle by following this link.

Frequently asked questions

I’m not an Australian citizen. Can I apply for a role?

Australian citizenship is a condition of eligibility to apply for a role. As such, applications from non-Australian citizens cannot be accepted.

I applied for a role. How do I get an update on my application?

An outcome about your application will be provided once the recruitment process has been finalised. Updates on applications cannot be provided while the recruitment process is in progress.

Will applicants living outside of the listed cities be considered?

This is a role-specific question and will depend on, for example, the responsibilities of the role and the composition of the team within which the role is located. Please email the hiring manager listed in the job advertisement to determine whether applicants living outside of the listed cities will be considered for that role.

I currently have a novated lease agreement, can I continue this in my new role at Australian Digital Health Agency?

Salary packaging is administrated for the Agency by the provider, SmartSalary, and novate leasing is a product offering of this company. If you are currently with provider SmartSalary you can continue your novated lease agreement. Detailed information on novated leasing can be found on the SmartSalary website.

I currently contribute additional amounts to my superannuation. Can I do this at the Agency?

Yes, this is possible. Superannuation packaging is administrated internally by the Agency, which means there are no administration fees involved.

Can I transfer my annual leave balance to the Agency?

If you’re an ongoing employee transferring from another Australian Public Service (APS) agency (under section 26 of the Public Service Act 1999), or a non-ongoing APS or Agency employee, your annual leave can be transferred, provided that there is no break in service.

Employees from the Parliamentary Service or ACT Government may also transfer their annual leave if they haven’t been paid out on cessation. Annual leave cannot be transferred from other Commonwealth employers or state and territory governments or private businesses.

Can I transfer my personal/carer’s leave balance to the Agency?

Yes, if you’re transferring from another Australian Public Service agency (either ongoing or non-ongoing), or from the Parliamentary Service or ACT Government Services, your personal leave can be transferred if there’s no break in service.

If you’re joining the Agency on an ongoing basis from any other Commonwealth employer, or from a state or territory government, your personal leave balance may be recognised subject to criteria and Agency delegate approval prior to commencement.

Can I transfer my long service leave balance to the Agency?

Long service leave can be transferred if you’re coming from another Australian Public Service agency, or from the Parliamentary or ACT Government services, provided there’s no break in service and you haven’t received a payout.

If you’re joining from a Commonwealth employer or state or territory government, your leave balances can’t be transferred but the Agency may recognise your prior service commencement date to count as continuous service for long service leave purposes; this requires Agency delegate approval.

I have a second job. Do I need to tell my new manager at the Agency about this?

Yes, please advise your new manager. All employees are required to seek approval for employment outside of the Agency. This applies to both paid and unpaid jobs.

Will I receive feedback on my application?

All applications are assessed against set criteria and shortlisting outcomes are agreed to by panel members. The Panel Chair will provide feedback upon request.

Are there end-of-trip facilities available?

Yes, end-of-trip facilities are available to staff in all Agency office locations.
