Introduction to FHIR for project managers
Course delivery
This training includes two components:
- Online modules – self paced (approximately 4 hours)
- Live virtual workshop – facilitated by FHIR® experts (1.5 hours)
Upon completion of the online components, you will be contacted with dates for the workshop component.

CHIA continuing professional development (CPD) points
Participants who successfully complete both the online and virtual trainer-led components are eligible to receive 5 CHIA (Certified Health Informatician Australasia) CPD Points towards their recertification. If you are not yet CHIA certified, you can find out more on the CHIA website.
It is not necessary to be a CHIA member to undertake the training.
Learning outcomes
On completing this course participants will be able to:
- Devise the ideal state of interoperability at your organisation
- Outline the benefits of implementing FHIR at your organisation
- Determine the types of resources and staff training that are required and implement and maintain FHIR at your organisation
- Compare and contrast the FHIR standard with previous standards (e.g., HL7 V2)
- Illustrate previous use cases for FHIR implementation in Australia and Internationally
- Distinguish unique characteristics of the Australian healthcare system that influence FHIR implementation
- Identify Australian governance requirements that would influence FHIR implementation at your organisation
- Articulate key FHIR concepts that you will need to understand to communicate with software developers.
