Pharmacist

Vanessa, a pharmacist, dedicates much of her time to ensuring the accuracy of medication dispensation and preventing adverse drug reactions, which leave her with limited opportunities for direct patient engagement.
Scenario
As a pharmacist, I want an Electronic Medication Management system (EMM) that improves the accuracy of dispensing medication and can alert me to immediate information on medication interactions, so I can focus on supporting better patient health outcomes.
Acceptance criteria
1. Prescription management
- The pharmacy system should receive updates from Monthly Index of Medical Specialties (MIMS) to ensure quick access to relevant, concise information to reduce medication errors.
- The system should facilitate ePrescribing to improve access to patient medication information to support patient safety, increase efficiency, and reduce risk of errors
- Patient’s historical and current medication details are available and presented in the system interface to flag potential contraindications with new medications.
2. Workflow management
- The new system should fit in with my existing workflows and allow me to automate manual tasks like reviewing orders and managing stock levels.
- The application must offer a transparent audit trail to monitor task completion, ensuring accountability and the ability to trace workflow actions.
3. Integration
- The pharmacy system should integrate with core clinical systems, that may or may not be native to the system, such as secure messaging, the National Prescription Delivery Service (PDS), PBS online-claiming system, and real time prescription monitoring (RTPM)
- The system should be able to upload dispensing information to a patient My Health Record (MyHR).
